Occupying a peaceful setting in the rolling Warwickshire countryside, the historic village of Shottery is just over a mile from the fine market town of Stratford-upon-Avon. This pretty little location is renowned as the birthplace of Anne Hathaway, wife of William Shakespeare, and boasts a myriad of lovely thatched cottages, a welcoming inn which serves real ale and delicious food as well as another popular restaurant. The home of Shakespeare, Stratford-upon-Avon is within easy reach and boasts not only striking architecture, shops full of character, pubs and lovely riverside walks, but also the bard’s famous theatre. Nearby Kenilworth and Warwick also boast castles, the latter of which often hosts a trebuchet or jousting display in summer months.
