Heighington is a village in Teesdale, County Durham, just 15 miles from Barnard Castle and 20 miles from the Cathedral city of Durham. Consisting of a small group of traditional cottages, four pubs and a Norman Church, and boasting views of the surrounding Dales countryside, Heighington is a great base for this part of the northern Dales. A trip to Durham with its majestic castle and cathedral is a must, as is a visit to the wild and rugged northern fells of Yorkshire and Cumbria. In 2006 Heighington was judged from amongst 11 other villages around the UK to be the BBC's Perfect Village.
