The tiny hamlet of Bylaugh, noted for its Saxon round-towered church, is situated along the River Wensum between the villages of Swanton Morley and Bawdeswell. Both of these larger villages boast a shop and pubs that serve excellent food. Swanton Morley also has a butchers and delicatessen as well as a village bakery. Close by is the large market town of Dereham which provides a number of shops and supermarkets, a sports centre, cinema, church, museums, and the Mid Norfolk Heritage Railway. There is also a traditional weekly market held on Tuesdays and Fridays in the square. The city of Norwich is close by and is packed with quality bars and restaurants in addition to its impressive cathedral and castle. The surrounding countryside offers many great opportunities for walking, fishing and cycling and is within reasonable driving distance of Sandringham, the Norfolk Showground and the beaches at Cromer and Hunstanton.
