Off the A57 and close to the A1 lies the small rural Nottinghamshire village of Askham. Just seven miles from the Wetlands Waterfowl Reserve – with thirty-two acres of fishing lakes and woodland along with an exotic birds sanctuary – the village has a pub and is only a short drive away from Sherwood Forest. This historic woodland is host to a Robin Hood visitor’s centre providing wonderful woodland walks that include the renowned Major Oak tree. Clumber Park, belonging to the National Trust, is also close by and has over 3,000 acres of land for walking or cycling through as well as well-manicured gardens and a lake with over 200 different species of bird. The Roman city of Lincoln is only 17 miles away and boasts both an incredible cathedral and a castle whilst historic Newark offers a fine Georgian market square and a variety of shops, pubs and restaurants.
