Allendale is an ancient parish and was once at the centre of the lead mining industry. There are still many reminders of its industrial past today, but the town has now become an attractive tourist spot in the centre of some spectacular scenery. The town is very well positioned to take advantage of the many top class tourist attractions this area has to offer and also the beautiful scenic countryside around. The city of Carlisle and the historic town of Hexham are nearby and the famous Hadrian’s Wall is only a short distance away. There are many unspoiled walks to discover, along with the Heritage Coast and the Northumberland National Park. The area is just waiting to be explored and is a delight all year round. A fabulous place for a family holiday.
