Description
Haughton Castle - White Lodge details
Romantic Haughton Castle, a Grade 1 listed building, dates from the peaceful era of 1260. The Castle faces parkland on one side, and a spectacular view across farmland with the North Tyne below. Guests may walk on the estate land and are encouraged to use the beautiful river walks along 2 miles of the beautiful North Tyne river, part of the estate. Guests are welcome to use the tennis court at The Castle by arrangement with the owners.
Hadrians Wall is only a 5 minute drive away and the historic market town of Hexham with its 12th century Abbey is just 5.5 miles. The North Pennines, Northumbrian coast as well as Durham and North Cumbrian attractions are all within easy access.
The castle is not open to the public. However, the owner has indicated that he would be happy to show guests around, subject to it being practicable at the time. Please avoid the areas marked Private in front of the castle. Haughton Castle White Lodge is a recently restored and beautifully refurbished 2 storey 'pepper pot' cottage situated within easy walking distance of the village pub and shop. There are lovely views across the surrounding countryside and the enclosed garden is bordered by the pretty Humshaugh Burn. A sitting area outside the back door has a garden table and chairs and there is a garden bench on another paved area overlooking the garden and the Humshaugh Burn.
