Green Neuk details
Green Neuk is set in 2 acres of woodland, which is a haven for wildlife including red squirrels and deer.
The house, which is built on an elevated position overlooking the Laich o Moray, enjoys far-reaching, spectacular views of the Moray Firth coastline and beyond.
The comfortable, energy efficient house is heated using an air source heat pump with underfloor heating and a wood burning stove ensuring the house is a warm refuge all year round. Stretching from the dramatic glens of the Cairngorms National Park in the South to the sandy beaches of the Moray Firth in the North, scattered here and there with picturesque towns and villages, and blessed with a pleasingly temperate climate, Moray is undoubtedly one of Scotlands hidden gems.
The city of Elgin is just 6 miles to the north of Green Neuk. It has a flourishing centre with a mix of small local shops and traditional high street names. Here you can find large supermarkets, 24 hour petrol stations, restaurants of all descriptions and all manner of shops and services.
Elgin is also home to Johnstons of Elgin, Scotlands second oldest family firm famous for their cashmere woollens and tweeds where as well as traditional shopping for clothing and interior design you can find coffee shops and even take a tour of the mill. Gordon and MacPhail, an independent family owned and managed firm which has been bottling Single Malt Whiskies for over 118 years, also has a flagship store in Elgin. Here you will be greeted with the aroma of home cooked local gammon, the largest selection of the finest cheeses available in North East Scotland and shelves packed with a fantastic array of high quality grocery products.
No visit to the Gordon and MacPhail store would be complete without a visit to the Whisky Room. Stocking around 1000 different single malt whiskies, the Whisky Room attracts customers from throughout the world to its crowded shelves. Browsing through the wide selection of whiskies, many of which are very old and extremely rare, you have entered the Aladdins Cave of whisky.
Further afield are a number of small towns and villages worth exploring.
Aberlour, just 20 minutes away, has a number of small local shops like the popular Speyside Larder, sell local food and drink and other speciality goods. Aberlour is also home to Walkers Shortbread where you can visit their factory shop, Aberlour distillery where, like the numerous other world class whisky distilleries that can be found in the area, you can tour the distillery and buy a bottle straight from the source.
Fochabers 10 miles to the east is home to Baxters, where you can visit Baxters Highland Village and the factory shop. It is also home to the newly opened Walled Garden at Gordon Castle where as well as visiting the cafe where you can feast on food grown in the beautifully restored walled garden you can shop in the retail store where you can purchase food and drink and fine goods for the home.
Forres, just 12 miles to the west is one of the oldest towns in Scotland. It has also won the Scotland in Bloom award numerous times. As well as a traditional high street it is also home to Logie Steading, a favourite with the locals and a place for shopping for antiques and curiosities, books and goods for the home and garden. It also boasts a popular cafe called the Olive Tree.
There are numerous other towns and villages around Moray, all unique and worth taking the time to explore.
