Description
Cark in Cartmel, at the southern tip of the Lake District and close to the shores of Morcambe Bay is today a charming, quiet village just a mile from Cartmel itself, home to the famous racecourse and priory. But Cark wasnt always so peaceful as it was once, in the 18th and 19th centuries, a bustling centre for the nearby mills and associated industries. Today the village has many a delightful walk around white washed cottages and leafy lanes, Holker Hall and gardens - the neo Elizabethan mansion and home of Lord and Lady Cavendish, 2 pubs, a village shop and a post office - in fact, there are 9 excellent pubs (and a Michelin starred restaurant) within a 3 mile radius, sufficient scope for quenching even the biggest of thirsts.
